June 2025 Single pages

June 2025 Our volunteers of the Library work tirelessly to foster the mission of Marion Public Library. Recently we celebrated the efforts of the volunteers, donors, and sponsors with a gathering that highlighted and recognized their efforts. In 2024, we tracked a total of 1,253.5 hours given by the many, many volunteers. This included those who spent some hours helping with programs, sitting a few hours a month in the BookMarket, or helping with the annual book sale. We can’t forget the MARCA volunteers who come most weeks to assist in smaller tasks, and the volunteer hours of the Library board members, and the BookMarks board members. We were also happy to announce Deb McPherson as the Volunteer of the Year because of the many hours she put into scheduling volunteers and organizing the BookMarket throughout 2024. Her efforts did not go unnoticed! DIRECTOR’S NOTE Gary Branson Watch for some PIE or DYE staff challenges throughout the summer!! What is your Social Health Type? Are you a Butterfly, an Evergreen, a Wallflower, or a Firefly? Are your social habits frequent or infrequent? Are your connections casual or deep? In this book Killam shares that most people fall into one of these category types with their social health. Learn about connection preferences, habits and characteristics of the different categories and where they fall on the social spectrum. The book goes on to give guidelines on how to strengthen your “social muscles.” Social health is as important as physical and mental health. Connection is like exercis, and should take steps to be socially healthy. The book shares real-world situations to stretch, rest, tone or flex in your connections. Ohio Digital Library has updated the hold limit per cardholder. You may have already noticed the change that took place May 15, 2025. The new holds limit maximum is 20 OverDrive holds (it was previously 30). The change is due to the rising digital material costs and potential funding shifts. It’s also aimed at helping reduce wait times. Are you already over 20 holds? You’ll keep the holds you have, but won’t be able to place more until you’re below the limit. TIP: Use Libby tags or your OverDrive wish list to save titles you want to read without placing a hold. Done reading early? Return it to help others - but no stress if you forget; items will still auto-return! NEW DIGITAL HOLDS LIMIT FOR ODL Thousands of titles available Mon., June 2 @ 6pm Oscar’s 306 S.
