We are putting final touches on another exciting lineup of programs designed to intrigue, inspire, and satisfy your curiosity. The flip-thru course list will be available online at MarionLibrary.org/All. A printed version with the registration form will be available for pickup at the front desk starting September 15. Classes will begin October 13 and run through November 21. We love being able to provide excellent opportunities to take a deeper dive into fourteen diverse subjects this fall. DIRECTOR’S NOTE Gary Branson ONE CARD, ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES: Celebrate September Library Card Sign-up Month Thank you for having a library card and using it. This September, Marion Public Library invites you to celebrate Library Card Sign-Up Month and discover how a single card can open the door to endless opportunities. We invite you to share this information with your friends who may not have a library card! With a library card, you can do more than check out books. From free programs and job resources to homework help and cultural events, today’s libraries connect communities to information, inspiration, and each other. And for many, libraries are a social connection that binds friendships. This year’s theme, “One Card, Endless Possibilities,” is a reminder that libraries are for everyone—no matter your age, background, or goals. Whether you’re diving into a new hobby, searching for your next great read, listening to a visiting author, brushing up on tech skills, or helping your child succeed in school, it all starts at your library. With a library card, you gain access to a wealth of resources: explore history and genealogy, read magazines and newspapers, listen to audiobooks, and dive deep into databases and business tools -- all available at your fingertips. Thanks to digital access, our collections are broader than ever before. Best of all, it’s at no charge to you with your library card. Households can save hundreds of dollars each year by using their library cards. Getting a library card is free, easy, and empowering. For students, it’s a key to academic success. For adults, it’s a gateway to lifelong learning. For everyone, it’s a smart way to stay connected to your community. If you don’t have a card, stop by Marion Public Library or visit us online at MarionLibrary.org/LibraryCard to download the form to sign up for your card today. STUDENT DATABASE RESOURCE Marion Public Library is excited to announce a new service for Marion County residents – a Seed Library! A seed library is an initiative that aims to strengthen our local gardening community and promote biodiversity, sustainability, and local food security by providing free access to seeds for anyone interested in growing their own garden. Seed libraries serve as educational resources, teaching people about gardening, seed saving, and the importance of preserving heirloom and native plant varieties. MPL strives to foster a sense of community and environmental stewardship, empowering individuals to contribute to local ecosystems. Starting September 8, 2025, any Marion County resident ages 13 and older may checkout up to 10 seed packets from the Seed Library each month. No prior gardening experience needed! With each type of seeds that are checked out, you will also receive planting and care information for that seed type. The educational resources provided have been written by Tim Barnes of the Marion OSU Extension Office. The MPL seed library relies on an honor system to help maintain a well-stocked collection of pure, healthy, and viable seeds for everyone to enjoy. All seeds have been donated to the Marion Public Library in new, unopened packets by the following generous donors: High Mowing Organic Seeds, Miller’s Country Garden, Rural King Marion (Livingston Seeds), Scioto Garden’s Nursery, Sow Right Seeds, and TomatoFest. Depending on the quantity of seeds received, some seeds have been divided and repackaged by MPL staff in order to benefit more seed library participants. To check seeds out, fill out the registration form available at the Information Services Desk on the second floor of the library. For a list of seeds available and the form for checking out seeds from the library, visit: Marionlibrary.org/seedlibrary starting September 8. SEED LIBRARY STARTS SEPTEMBER 8 Assorted varieties available, registration required.
