Beginning May 9th, any interested K-12 students can begin meeting weekly at the library to be coached through preparing speeches about Juneteenth (the celebration of emancipation of the last remaining enslaved persons in the United States on June 19th, 1865).  The 7-week workshop combines the historical narrative of Juneteenth while also developing oratorical skills.  Students will meet weekly at the library to be coached by members of Marion's Peace and Freedom Committee, while also receiving information on research strategies and resources from Library staff.  Their speeches will be presented to the public at Marion Public Library on Saturday, June 23rd at 10am.
